On June 27, 2013, Citibank India | www.citibank.co.in updated it mobile app for Android. While there are two new features, Instant Pay and Instant Assist they have added, both of them need the ability to send SMS messages. However, it looks like Citi is looking to get more than that from its users. The update further allows Citi to access the data on your phone like your web bookmarks, history and even read your contacts. All of this is clearly evident in the snapshot below.
While we were unable to reach Citibank India for comments at the time, we certainly are looking forward to hear from them. In the meantime, we strongly recommend that you do not Accept the permissions and update your Citibank IN app. Instead, please continue to use the previous version which works great and has no access to your web bookmarks, browsing history, and contacts on your phone.
